2016 Autumn Steam Meet

The Rand Society of Model Engineers will hold a 6-day Autumn Steam Meet from 27th April to 2nd May at its 1.2 km railway track in Len Rutter Park, corner Golf Club Terrace & Louis Botha Drive, Florida (Roodepoort).
Entrance is on Golf Club Terrace opposite Walker Avenue. (There is a big blue steam locomotive visible from the road).

It is a fun outing for a family with lots of space to picnic. There is no entry fee, plus free parking and toilet facilities. A train ride costs R10 per person, which goes towards maintaining this facility.

Model engineers build and operate miniature steam, diesel and electric locomotives that can pull up to 25 passengers on riding cars behind the loco. Most of these are replicas of full sized locomotives, including many South African Railway classes. Viewing these is enjoyed by young and old.

In addition to the trains, there is an operating museum of oil and hot-air engines made in the 19th & 20th centuries. Two of these run generators that can provide electricity when needed.

The venue is readily accessible from the N1 highway by taking the Gordon Road or 14th Avenue off-ramps.
GPS coordinates on home page. Operating hours are from 09h30 to 16h30.
Snacks and refreshments will be available.
